One of my closest friends will have her daughter be baptized this end of the month. I am having a hard time choosing what to pick. Will I get toys for the baby or clothes or other baby stuff like feeding bottles, rattles, pillows, diapers, and the like?
I asked some of my friends who have babies already and these are the replies that I got from them:
1. Clothes – If the child is still a baby like 0 months to 24 months, it is wise to give them clothes, booties, mittens, baby caps, socks, and anything that is for home use or “check-up with the doctor” use. Refrain from buying clothes that are used for going outside the house like going to malls, restaurants, and whatsoever. Babies tend to grow-up fast. Before you know it, the clothes you bought do not fit anymore in a span of a short period of time. But for jammies and onesies, these are the clothes they will wear all the time. So having a lot of this is just fine. The moms would even appreciate if they have a lot of onesies.
If the child is already more than three, I think clothes are okay like a shirt, pants, shoes, polo, dresses, skirts, sleeveless or all sort of tops that you can think of. You can also add accessories if you want like head bands.
2. Toys – I have like 10 nephews and nieces. Some of them grew up with me so I know that at the age of two years old until twelve, they still appreciate toys even the cheap ones you get from bazaars. I remembered when my nephew celebrated is 5th birthday, a lot of the guests gave him expensive clothes like shirts, pants and shoes. I gave him a toy train that has tracks and moves with the use of batteries. It only cost me like 100 pesos. When he opened my gift, he immediately played with it and didn’t bother looking at his nice clothes that were displayed in front of him.
Same with my nephew who just turned two recently. He received a lot of fancy clothes and expensive shoes but when he saw his plastic basketball ring, he immediately begged his dad to inflate the ball so he can play with it. The moms may appreciate the clothes (of course) because they can be quite expensive nowadays but kids love toys more.
3. Baby Needs – For a newborn, I think these are what moms really need above all especially. They need clothes too like what I mentioned earlier but I think moms appreciate more the things that they need to take care of their babies like wipes or wet ones, diapers, feeding bottles, milk, powder, pillows, blankets, nursing mom’s cover, wraps, baby bags, car seat, baby basket, stuff used for mashing food, juicer, pacifiers, bibs, towelette, and a lot more.
It is important that you know how old is the kid before buying a gift. Personally, I want something the child will like and can be used. In this scenario, since the baby is still 6 months old, I think I will just get her (and her mom) baby needs like diapers and wipes.
