The Unconventional Oral Detoxification

We commonly hear about detoxifying our body from all the noxious substances that has accumulated over time.  There are different concoctions offered by fitness gurus which have been proven to be effective. While we worry about our physical appearance, we may have forgotten how our oral health should be. Our parents taught us to brush our teeth every after meal. And together with that, dentists have advised the use of a mouth wash and the use of the dental floss to ensure that every corner of our oral gems would be cleared from food debris.

However, there is one Ayuvedric technique in getting rid of all the harmful bacteria, fungus and other possible organisms that can inhabit our mouth. And that is known as oil pulling.

The most commonly used oil for oil pulling is the organic sesame oil. The use of extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil is as well as effective. It is however recommended to use these oils alternatively to be able to get maximum results.

How is it done?

Measure about a tablespoon of cold pressed organic sesame oil and place inside the mouth. Swish the oil around your mouth. The saliva when mixed with the oil will be of thin consistency. As you continuously swirl the oil, it then thickens. Once you have reached this consistency, spit it out before bacteria can actually set in. The swirling process should take about 15 minutes.

Studies have shown that this is a very effective way of keeping a very health oral environment. Oil pulling should be a part of our oral regimen. The pulling out of these bacteria and other organisms helps reduce the formation of cavities and plaque. Brushing and flossing alone can be of help. But with the combination of oil pulling, one would see the huge difference. The oil somehow, prevents the sticking of these unwanted bacteria into walls of the oral cavity. Not only does it able to control the growth of bacteria, but as well as fungus. The known oral fungal infection is Candidiasis. Candidiasis is the abnormal growth in the number of candida albicans in the oral cavity.  It may look like a minor infection, but when left untreated could lead to more serious health problems. “ An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”. Keeping a healthy oral cavity eliminates the need to take antibiotics when infection sets in.

What makes this oil pulling as a good oral health aid is that it can strengthen the enamel of the teeth since the absence of the bacteria will not cause any formation of tooth decay. It can also prevent in the formation of oral diseases in the gums (gingivitis). Soreness of the jaw can also be eliminated, the prevention of dryness of the lips and its surrounding tissues and if there is the presence of bleeding gums due to gingivitis, it can also help it cure. With all these, a very healthy oral cavity means the absence of bad breath (halitosis).

You will also be amazed how this technique could benefit a person aside from improving his/her oral heath. It can also aid in the relief of migraine, aids in reducing pain, especially for those with arthritis, corrects hormonal imbalance, and helps problem with insomnia, just to name a few.
