The first date can be the most nerve wracking situation imaginable. It can also be a very nice interchange between two strangers. There are some common mistakes on the first date that can secure no second one. When these things pop up we know the person is not for us and we move on. Here are seven common mistakes:
Be sure to wear something that is appropriate for the occasion. If you know you are going out to dinner heels are fine but if you are going for a walk in the park wear suitable shoes. No heels to sporting events and avoid nice jewelry when you are going to outdoor barbecue. And for the women-too much cleavage is not cool. Flaunt it, just don’t over do it.
This is a big no no. It shows a clear lack of respect for the other person and puts the entire mood of the date on a negative note. It is inexcusable to be even a very few minutes late, even if you have a great excuse. Plan ahead and don’t let this happen to something that could be great.
Bringing friends on a date shows insincerity and immaturity. If you are meeting someone for the first time and you are nervous about meeting them alone you might want to meet in a public place and see how it goes. But don’t throw the other person for a loop by bringing someone else along when it is supposed to be a one on one date.
Subjects For Conversation-
It is a good idea to stay away from debatable subjects such as religion or politics. It is important to reach a comfortable place with your partner before you hit on any hot topics. And don’t put too much out there at first. Save something for another time. Too much too soon can make you look needy.
Checking Out Other People-
It is an unwritten rule that looking at other people of the opposite sex is not something you want to do. Dating is basically looking for someone to settle into a relationship with and if you are looking elsewhere on the first date then you are obviously not ready for this step. A definite turn off.
Being Too Aggressive-
The first date is a chance for two people to get to know each other and no one likes someone’s wandering hands before you’ve even had a chance to get to know this person. This is one of the best ways to push someone away. Being overly aggressive on a first date is a sure way not to get a second one with the same person.
Getting Too Drunk-
Not all people can handle alcohol and it does lower the inhibitions so people act differently than they would normally. A drink or two may relax you and a bottle of wine is romantic but just don’t take it too far. And being drunk in public is not only embarrassing for you but for your date.
