You might not be surprised to learn that many people are living somewhere else, other than the now. There’s the past, and then there’s the future. Living in either of these places rather than the now tends to dilute our lives and cause us to miss the moments that truly matter.
Living in the past and the future means we worry about things that have already happened (that we can’t change), and things that are yet to happen (people usually worry about things that never even happen in the first place). Because the majority of people live in one of these places, or even a mixture of the two, it’s impossible for them to enjoy the only moment we have; the rich and vibrant now. The now is ripe with possibilities and enjoyment, and people let it pass them by time and time again.
So, why is living in the now so important? Well, put bluntly, if you’re not living in the now, you’re not living. You may as well be asleep. Living in the now is what kids do when they play for hours on end and forget the time. It’s what we do when we’re so engrossed in a hobby that we love that we forget to eat. That’s living in the now! Living in the now is so enjoyable and timeless, and yet the majority of us fail to do it. So, how can you start living in the now more often?
Meditation has so many benefits, both in the short term and long term. By taking just 10 minutes per day to meditate (it’ll be hard at first), you can feel far more in tune with the moment, and feel better able to live a fuller life. It can make you happier, more creative, less stressed – the list goes on! There are many apps out there that can help you too.
Bring Your Whole Self To Everything You Do
Whether you’re going to coffee with a friend or a business meeting, bring your whole self. Make sure you’re entirely there in that moment, and not anywhere else in your head. You’ll get better results, build better relationships, and experience so many other benefits. Of course in some instances, looking to the future is good. Spend More Time Doing The Things You Love
Spending more time doing the things you love could be anything from reading to Thai boxing. Anything that gives you the feeling of losing track of time is a winner! It doesn’t mean binge watching a TV show or spending hours scrolling through Facebook. Again, these things waste time and dilute our lives. Try to limit your screen time, and spend more time doing things that feed your soul and make you truly happy.
The present moment is all we have – don’t waste it!
