There is one little green character that has fascinated me for a long time now. No, it’s not Kermit the frog. I’m talking about Yoda. If you’re not familiar with the Star Wars franchise; he’s the old green Jedi who can’t speak English properly. I enjoy watching the Star Wars movie and have created training and seminars on attitude and self-help topics with this theme. Allow me to share some life skill wisdom from our adorable Jedi Master Yoda.
“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose”
I remember as a child that I was possessive. Even now, there are times when materials things seemed so important to me that I let it go in between friendship and relationships. But owing to the wisdom of this Jedi Master, I realize that this life is full of material things that I can’t take when I depart from this world. Material possession is important as many are necessities in life. But we must all understand that our existence go beyond these mere objects. There is relationships, values, beliefs and so many intangible concepts that drive our very existence. The moment we let possessions take a hold of us, we slowly go into the dark side.
“You must unlearn what you have learned.”
This is one concept that I adapt in my trainings and in life in general. We have habits and attitudes that we grew up with that are not beneficial to our relationships and growth. I remember thinking that people who do not believe in Jesus are bad people. Then I met so many non-Christians who live a virtuous life. As we grow to understand our place in this world, we will learn that not everything we know is the truth or real. Our minds must be willing to expand and learn more. Sometimes, unlearning is the only way to understand the real truths around us.
“Always pass on what you have learned.”
I firmly believe that we are blessed so we can be blessing to others. We are given so much – sometimes more than what we actually know and believe. It is our responsibility to share with others these blessings. It doesn’t what how small or insignificant it may be, we can share with others. What we know is a valuable gift that we can give to other people.
“Do or do not, there is no try”
If you commit to something we have to do it with all our heart. In many instances I have faced people with no accountability and who do not understand what commitment is all about. It frustrates me to be with these people. But, I make sure that I influence them to do what is right. Some tasks are harder than the other. Some are easier and still some are more enjoyable compared to the rest. Regardless what task you are endeavoring to accomplish, set your heart in doing it.
It may seem ridiculous to get wisdom from a fictitious character. But Jedi Master Yoda proves that many humans don’t act the way humans should. This world is full of good and bad; great and dismal or important or otherwise. How we engage the world we live in depends on how we see it and how receptive we are to the little details that adorn life.
Allow me to encourage you to live life to the fullest. In the words of the Jedi Master, “May the force be with you.”
