Most of us have maintenance medicines to take or our parents do. We must always be sure they are out of reach from small children. I keep my mother’s and mine in small containers or pill box.Since my mom only takes 2-3 plus vitamin I have instructed our helper and she keeps them safe. She places them in a small cup or condiment saucer so she knows she has to take them after breakfast.
Before she would also put mine because I only took a few thinking they were ok. But after my check up I had 5-6 medicines to take and different times. So the first time I had all my medicines place in a small plastic box with a handle so I could carry it with me during meal time. I also bought a small pillbox to put medicine if I got out. Kind of embarrassing to bring the whole thing. Also having the weekly with the 3 separations are good but I was looking for one that had more or at least 4 because I also have to take 2 medicines before breakfast so I still bring the small basket during breakfast. It is complete with a scissor(not sharp pointed) a ball pen and the list of my medicines.
I requested my daughter to print out (write) my medicines, the dosage and the time to take them. I was lucky to find this plastic envelope in my things. it will help protect my list so it won’t tear or get smudged. I also showed this to my helper so she knows what I am to take. It is important that there are people in your household who knows what you take and how much. They should also know where you keep them. I keep the medicine containers on my bedside, anyway there are no children below 4 in the household. If ever her eldest daughter is grade 8 so she also knows. She has been helping her mom when I ask for my medicines before. It is important that they now too. And they also know how to read so I don’t take the medicines out of their package so they can see the name and dosage. It is very important you have a list because sometimes you forget so you can have a reminder to look at. I always check it before taking my medicines.
I try to buy my medicines in bulk if they are available. I have 3 that I bought to last 3 months, the others I buy good for 20-30 days because they are kind of expensive. I place the supply in a bigger plastic container with a sealed cover and put on top of the refrigerator in the bedroom. Everyone knows where it is if they need it. You just always ave to check your supply. That is why I like having a weekly pillbox so I can tell how much is left whenever I refill it. Then I can have time to prepare the budget. I try to refill whenever I see that I have enough supply good for 1 week. At let there is time to buy.
So keep your medicines in a safe place away from small children and pets. But known to you and the other adults inside the house. Medicines can also be harmful to animal or pets, we don’t know what reaction it would give them.
