Those who think that money just pops in anytime they need or want them, is definitely not the common Juan that we can relate to. There are only a few people who have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth. And the only thing left for them to do is to continue the legacy that has been left behind by their parents or grandparents who have started their business. However, there are a few who just feel that they don’t need to work all their life because their business is still successfully operating. And what do you think happens to these people? They end up being nothing.
It is so sad, however, that in some places here in our country, you would see people by the street playing cards or drinking alcohol as early 7 a.m. And they are the ones to complain that they deserve to be given a place to live since they have no means of buying their own place. These people have obliged the government to support them all through their lives. While the government may have some responsibilities for the needy, I do think that everyone should also do something to help themselves. Otherwise, they will never have a life that they have always dreamed of.
Can you imagine how some people would be out in the streets in as early as 5 a.m. on their way to work while others stay up as late as 12 noon? For others who may be working late at night, this may be just fine since they are working. But, how about those people who are just at home eating and just flipping through channels all day?
If I were to ask you what is your most fervent wish, what would you reply? A majority of people would answer that they would want to have a house of their own. The next top answer is to have their own car and the third is to be able to travel the world. I, too have the same dreams. We all want to have the freedom to buy anything in the world anytime. But my next question is, what have you done to make your dream a reality? This is kind of ironic how people from other countries see us. They prefer hiring Filipino workers because they know that they are dedicated to working. But there is also a huge percentage of unemployment in the country. Who should we blame for this?
I will state certain scenarios which I hope would somehow make you feel inspired on how to make your life better.
SCENARIO #1: You are a college graduate for over a year. But despite passing resumes to several companies, you have always been denied employment. Disheartened by your fate, you instead just stay at home and help out your mother whenever she needs you. But most of the time you are just inside your room or go out with your friends.
Realization: A large majority of college graduates have finished courses which do not match the jobs that are available. If you think about it, so many people may have wasted all the 4 years they studied in College all because of working in a different field. Our ultimate goal is to be able to have the means of making a living. And to become too choosy with the kinds of jobs available will surely lead you to nowhere.
Solution: Working at a BPO Company may just be the easiest job there is, particularly that there are so many international companies which prefer Filipinos to work for them because of their perseverance and hard work. So, if you think that you need to learn new skills in order to land at a decent job, NEVER HESITATE! I know that it can be tiring but if you want to make a difference, you have to push yourself harder and think what good things await you when you succeed.
SCENARIO #2: You have been working more than 8 hours a day from Monday to Friday, and sometimes, even on Saturdays. You know very well that you are great at your job, however, you have noticed several other co-workers have been promoted even if you have been with the company ahead of them.
Realization: No company would promote an employee unless he has shown exemplary performance. Other employees would naturally feel jealous when they find out that a co-worker has been promoted. However, instead of them to feel happy for their co-worker, they end up gossiping and or “sourgraping”.
Solution: I do believe in luck. But I also believe that there is a right time for everything. If you think that you deserve a promotion, not just because of a title, but also because of the increase in salary, help your superiors see what makes you become deserving of a higher post. This does not mean to praise your superior all the time or encourage any bad decisions which they may have. But it is more on putting more confidence in yourself and doing the extra mile. Check yourself. Even if you are good with what you do, but if you lack people skills, it’s a point less on your overall rating. Remember that to be able to climb the ladder of success, you must not take for granted a lot of important things. There are a lot of parameters considered prior to being promoted. If your desire is to be promoted, improve yourself personally and be equipped with additional knowledge.
SCENARIO #3: Your boss entrusted you with a huge project in which he expects you to submit the report in 3 weeks. It was a huge challenge for you and it has made you feel so excited that you practically work more than 15 hours a day. You aim for perfection and your only way of ensuring that the presentation will be greatly appreciated is by working as much as you can.
Realization: There is really nothing wrong in putting extra effort on important things such as the one mentioned. However, if we push ourselves too much, we end up feeling wasted and irritated. You always need to feel motivated in order for you to give your best. And just like anyone else, you deserve some rest. Although your boss may have given you a deadline, it doesn’t mean that you need to rush your work. Don’t you realize that when you get too stressed with work, it only hampers your creative thoughts?
Solution: Stress can kill. And you should know that it is one of the major causes of death. Not having enough time to rest would not allow you to think straight. Besides, you are robbing your family of the quality time that you need to have with them. If you feel that you need more inspiration to add to your presentation, instead of banging your head on the table or the wall, look for other resources that can help you. It wouldn’t hurt to ask help from someone whom you think has a good perspective with the project that you have.
When you allow yourself to stay calm and relaxed, all the more you become productive. You would be amazed at just how it is easy for you to grasp those ideas without stressing yourself. Learn to know how to manage your time wisely and be able to balance between work and your personal life.
One Thought: We don’t live because we need to work. We work because we need to live. A little sacrifice is what makes this journey a great ride!
Let’s get real. Life is tough. And if we just allow life to push us around, we just end up wasting the life given to us. We have to learn to discipline ourselves in such a way that we slowly turn our lives better than it was before. Our aim should always have a better life than the previous generation. BUT, we should always make time for ourselves and our loved ones, as well. After all, everything that we do is dedicated to them.
