Do you have a Funny idea for a meme? A meme is one of those often humorous images that goes the rounds of the Internet, turning up on social pages and blogs as well as Twitter. Of it takes the form of a demotivational poster or a funny picture couple with a cute saying. Cat memes are anmong the most popular, with amusing cat pictures embellished with funny quips.
If you have an idea, making your own meme is not hard. You need a good graphics program like Photoshop or Paint Shop but you do’t have to lash out large sums of money either. You can use a free online photo editor like Pixlr or Fotoflexer. I will create a new meme in Pixlr to show yoiu how it is done. When you open Pixlr you are prompted to Create a New Image or Upload an Image from your computer. I choose to Create a New Image. You will get a small box asking you to set a title and size for your image. I choose to call it Meme and set the size to 800×600.
To the left you will see a tool box. I choose the ‘paint bucket’ tool and fill the image with a black background. You can change the colour at the bottom of the too box by clicking on the colout square. Now click on Fikle/Open Image and choose one from your computer. A word of warning: NEVER use an image without permission. Make sure it is one you have taken yourself, or it is in the Public Domain (free to use). I choose an image of a cat that I took myself.
Now leave that image open and click on Edit/select. Click Edit/copy. Click on the background image and click Edit/paste. If your image is too large for the background (or too small) you may have to resize it. Click Image/image size. Make the size smaller than the background – say 600×400 or whatever the smaller number adjusts to. The repeat Eit/copy, followed by Edit/paste on the background. Now you have your meme poster with the image surrounded by black background.
Position your cursor on the top black strip of the poster and type your first sentence. White will stand out well so remember to change the colour on the text box by clicking on the colour square. Save the meme to your computer.
