How to Create Lasting Memories

There is almost nothing more rewarding in this life than being able to look back on close relationships. These can be with family, friends, and even beloved pets. In fact, one of the most satisfying things is not only to have wonderful relationships but to also make an effort to recall them as clearly as possible.

Here are some practical ways to proactively create lasting memories:

Capture the Moment with Photographs

Although we may think that we will always vividly remember how someone or a favorite pet looks, human memory is faulty. However, with photographs, you can capture images that will freeze time and vividly capture the moment.

Immortalize a Person or a Pet with a large Painting

While photographs are an effective way to capture an image, they are often stored away, either in photograph albums or in digital devices. However, a large painting on your living room wall of your favorite people or pets, or even of yourself, is a wonderful way to celebrate a memory. That is what one woman did with her beloved pet, a dog called Zephyr. She ordered a 2-by-3 feet oil painting to celebrate her dog’s twelfth birthday. She was so thrilled by her experience that she wrote a first-person PaintYourLife review that explains how anyone can get an unforgettable portrait made.

Film Favorite Events with Video

Videos used to be expensive and require bulky equipment and special lighting. However, with mobile telephones, its simple to record special moments with wonderful people. While photographs can help you remember how someone looks and paintings can help you convert their image into a piece of art that you can hang in your home, videos are especially valuable if you want to remember an event—for instance, a huge, surprise birthday bash in your honor; a musical concert with your best friends enjoying the music belted out by your all-time favorite band; or a delightful day cruise watching the dolphins leap around your boat on your family vacation.

Revisit Your Finest Hour Through Journaling

While capturing images is wonderful, it’s not the only way to cherish happy memories. You might also want to capture your thoughts and feelings about an event, too. For instance, if you are graduating from college or completing a post-graduate degree, you can take pictures or a video of the cap and gown ceremony, but it’s not always enough. In fact, it’s not even enough to just proudly display your framed certificate in your home.

You may also want to recall the struggle you had to get admitted to the program, the dedication and grit you showed to get top marks in your classes, the sacrifices you made to stay the course despite financial hardships, and your feelings of triumph and exultation when you finally received your degree from the dean of the school. Journaling will help you recall your heroic journey many years down the line when you need a boost to your self-esteem.

Making an effort to keep from forgetting your favorite memories and experiencing them years later when you look back doesn’t have to be complicated. Nor does it have to be costly or require enormous effort. By using these easy-to-implement suggestions listed, you’ll be able to keep your favorite memories alive and well for many years.
