How to fix Yoast SEO XML Sitemap 404 error? This could be annoying. You are excited to view your sitemap after you have installed Yoast SEO plugin but then you see a 404 error page. I’ve been looking for solution for this – and accidentally – I’ve found the simplest and fastest solution!
I am in the middle of my online job but I feel the need to write this post to help you who have the same problem I’ve encountered two times now.
If you are working hard to improve your site’s SEO, one vital factor is submitting sitemaps on Google Webmaster Tools – Yoast SEO plugin will automatically create sitemaps. You don’t need to generate it, but you can always adjust the settings. I can imagine your frustration if you’ll see a 404 error after clicking on the XML Sitemap button.
What I did to fix this annoying thing?
I have simply installed another plugin called Google XML Sitemaps! You can go to Plugins > Add New. On the Search Plugins box, type Google XML Sitemaps. Install the plugin and activate it.
You will then see a Warning message from Yoast SEO! See screenshot below.
Simply click on the button “Configure Yoast SEO’s XML Sitemap Settings”. When you are taken to said page, click on “XML Sitemap” button again – Voila! Problem solved!
FYI: Google XML Sitemaps is also a great plugin for generating sitemaps, however, both plugins can generate XML Sitemaps. If you have Yoast SEO installed, no need to use another plugin for that purpose. So, be sure to uninstall Google XML Sitemaps and delete it on your site.
Anyway, did it solve your problem too? Please let me know in the comment below.
