In my existence here on earth, I have lots of experiences already. What I would like to discuss here is on whether to go to a doctor of medicine or a quack doctor/faith healer in case of sickness. Each of us has our reasons why we go directly to a medical doctor or a quack doctor. Going to these experts, I will just describe them as experts in their own fields, a person needs to think as to where they will go,
In the place where I am living, most of the people believe in the quack doctor. Even sometimes I tend to believe in it too but only for minor illnesses. I have more faith on the doctors of medicine. People who are living in the countryside tend to believe in quack doctors. I guess the reason for this is that they are less expensive than the doctors. Most quack doctors are living in the countryside so that they are the most available persons to approach whenever residents in the countryside are sick. Since most of the illness are just simple, these can be cured by herbs and other quack medicines available. We know that there are herbs that can cure certain illnesses since synthetic medicines are made of herbs.
On the other hand, faith healers are also believed to cure serious illnesses. People tend to believe them because their knowledge in healing tend to be God given. That is why people go to places where faith healers are known to be practicing their trade. There are some who said that patients are cured because it is a psychological effect on the intensity of the patient’s faith. Well, for me, it is really the patient’s faith in God that cured him.
The doctors studied for a long time before they can acquire their license. I guess a doctor will feel insulted when he is compared to a quack doctor. I have an example for this. My obstetrician confided to me about her patient who was pregnant. They had an argument as to the age of the fetus inside the womb of the patient. The doctor was insulted because the patient told her that according to her “trained hilot”, the baby is only this old which was in contrast with what the doctor said. A trained hilot as most of us filipino membes here know and for the information of those non-filipino members here refers to a person who engaged in assisting a pregnant woman deliver her baby.
So people should keep in their minds that a doctor studied for several years before they can treat sick people. Whereas a quack doctor just acquired knowledge in healing thru experience.
