With each passing day, our age increases and there is no cure for it. However, we can opt to remain youthful, healthy and happy and this is in our hands to some extent. Following these tips demands will power, patience and discipline but if you opt for a healthy lifestyle, you will find that the quality of your life improves dramatically.
Smart Food Choices
♣Drink a glass of raw vegetable juice or fresh fruits every day. Try out different flavors and combinations. Fresh juices are full of anti-oxidants, minerals and nutrients which are quickly assimilated in the body. I always make juices from seasonal fruits like mangoes and peaches in summer and carrots and oranges in winter. Beetroot, cabbages, cucumbers, pineapple, apples, pomegranates, strawberries can all be used in different combinations to yield extremely healthy and delicious juices.
♣Consume less oil. Do not eat too much fried food or use oil to cook your foods. Try for healthier options like baked potatoes instead of eating french fries as side dish. I make mango/strawberry/peach/pineapple yogurts and freeze them for my kids so that they eat healthier desserts than ice cream.
♣Try to avoid junk food as much as possible.
♣Avoid refined sugar, refined flour, white rice etc and opt for brown sugar, brown rice and bran bread instead.
♣Some people stuff themselves with food till they can hardly breath. Stop eating without feeling completely full because this helps your stomach to digest food more easily.
♣Include green tea, curd/yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
Change Daily Habits
♣Stop smoking because this habit can age you quickly as well as adversely effect your skin, teeth and lungs. Drugs and alcohol should be completely avoided.
♣Take up some sports, exercise or at least take a brisk walk for 30 minutes daily.
♣Stay involved with family, friends and community because this helps you to be active, generous and stops you from being immersed in your own problems all the time.
♣Take good care of your hair, teeth, skin and eyes and consult a doctor immediately if you feel that there is something wrong with your health. Many health problems if diagnosed early are curable so never be lax and ignore symptoms.
♣Have good hygiene habits like brushing your teeth, bathing regularly, washing hands and wearing clean clothes.
♣Take up some hobby which will relieve you from stress whether it is playing a musical instrument, gardening, baking, knitting, writing, painting or arts and crafts.
♣Keep assessing your life from time to time and think about the good, the bad and the ugly things cluttering your life. Try to find a solution to problems rather than let them overpower you.
♣Get closer to nature. Place a potted plant in your office cubicle, have a rooftop/kitchen garden or some indoor plants especially if you cannot afford a garden or live in a noisy, polluted urban city.
♣Get a good night sleep. This is essential for being active and healthy as our body repairs itself while we are sleeping.
