In case not all of us know her, Meryl Streep is a respectable Hollywood actress. She won so many awards in the past and she has a lot of nominations up until the present. She made so many great movies that someday I would want to see them all.
While I was browsing my news feed |(which I do almost every day), I saw her photo with a caption of “I no longer have patience.” Those words really struck me because it felt that she is mad at someone or something. I mean when I was a child, I was taught to be patient in all things. If I wanted a toy, my mom told me to wait and patient because eventually it will come to me. When I got out of college, I kind of got depressed because I have been applying for a job for a month but was not lucky to get hired. But my mom told me to be patient and the right job will come to you. So why did Meryl Streep lose her patience?
As a fan of her works, I immediately opened the link and read the article. It was not that long but after reading it, it made me see things differently now. I do not know if I am allowed to write here her exact words or the words used in the blog/article so I will just summarize it for you.
Meryl Streep has loss her patience to some things not because she became arrogant but because she reached a certain point in her life where she does not want to waste her time to people that do not like her and to people that hurt her. She also loss her will to please people that do not like her, love those who do not love her, and smile at the people who do not want to smile at her.
She does not want to tolerate people that are not flexible and do not want to adapt to change. In friendship, she does not like dishonesty and betrayal so if she found out that these are the type of friends she has, then she won’t feel bad if their friendship will come to an end.
She may sound arrogant because it seems that she is full of herself or Miss Know-it-all like her character in “Devil Wears Prada” Miranda Priestly. But that is not the case. What she is trying to tell us that we do not need to take sh*t from people who do not respect us. Why do we need to exert our time and effort to people who could not care less if we can give all our energy and support to someone who does? Why do we waste our time to negative people if we can share it to the positive ones?
I think this a great outlook in life. If we can detect these people earlier on, it would be easy for us to move away from them and stay positive at all times. It is like in a relationship. Why do we stay with our partners if they keep on taking us for granted, hurting us emotionally and physically if we can just leave them and look for someone who deserves our love?
I really admire Meryl Streep even more because she does not only do great in her craft but she is an intelligent and insightful person.
