I used be surprised when I saw a piece of charcoal inside the refrigerator in a small bowl or saucer. I was told that it absorbs the smell inside the fridge. Hmm it is true but something better is putting a box of baking soda in the back because some people might get shocked at the sight of a piece of charcoal.
Another way is after cleaning out the fridge and wiping it clean, mix some baking soda in water, just a little and dissolve it completely. Rinse your sponge or clothe in it, squeeze and wipe the insides of the fridge and freezer, it helps deodorize it.
Then check all the food items you are placing inside, throw away expired or spoiled food. Also make sure left-overs are placed in plastic containers with tight covers. All water containers must also have lids. If you place things in plastic bags be sure they are tied and not dripping. Especially the favorite of the Filipinos the Bagoong, dried fish, and spicy foods. Keep these in tightly closed containers. Also everything you put in the freezer must be packed properly, and labeled.
Change the baking soda box every month, you can also put charcoal with it to absorb more smells. Always throw away spoiled food. And cleaning out the refrigerator at least once a month when you change the baking soda is advisable. So every time you open your refrigerator a fresh smell will always come out. and having a clean fridge will lessen the probability of spoiling food and lessens the bacteria.
A clean fresh smelling refrigerator is a plus for any household and saves us the possibility of wasting food that spoils and bad odor in the refrigerator can even make drinking water have a funny taste and the other food too.
